Caan Berry Book Review – Betfair Trading Made Simple

In this post, I’m going to review Caan Berry’s latest book, Betfair trading Made Simple.

It has caused quite a stir in the sports trading world as of late, with most traders jumping on the opportunity to buy a new piece of physical media in this mostly online world.

Having followed Caan for quite some time, I decided to give the new book a go. I’d already bought Caans video course a couple of years ago and learned a lot from it.

Who Is Caan Berry?

Caan Berry is a professional sports trader who focuses mostly on pre-race horse racing markets.

He is well known for his blog and YouTube channel where he shares thousands of sports trading tips, tricks and general info.

According to his blog, he began looking into sports trading whilst serving in the British Army. It seems as if the discipline he learned there transferred well into the sports trading markets!

Recently, Caan has appeared alongside other sports traders at the Matchbook Traders Conference and has also been featured in video publications and blog posts by Betfair Exchange themselves.

What Does Betfair Trading Made Simple Cover?

The book covers everything you need to know to get started trading on Betfair Exchange. Assuming you know absolutely nothing about sports trading, you’ll  be taken through every step of the path in a clear, easy to read format.

The book begins with a chapter on luck and how you should quite simply, forget it. Sports trading has nothing to do with luck and everything to do with patience and preparation. I think it’s important that this chapter is thoroughly understood before stepping foot in the markets. I’ve seen far too many amateur sports traders go broke or give up because they still believe luck is a factor in success.

Sports trading strategies are like gold dust for new traders and Caans book teaches you how to build your own profitable system from the ground up.

The book does mention quite a few sports but featured more often than not are Caans more favoured choices:

  • Horse Racing
  • Greyhounds
  • Tennis
  • Football

Further into Betfair Trading Made Simple, you’ll find a chapter on trading physcology. There are entire books devoted to this topic (TraderMind, Trading In The Zone, to name a couple), but Caan does a great job of summarising the basics in one single chapter. I’d strongly encourage any new trader to make a conscious effort to understand their own thought patterns when trading and reading more on this topic if possible.

Towards the end of the book, there is an entire chapter on long-term risk management. This is crucial for all traders to understand and I’m pleased to see a strong emphasis on it. There’s no point in making good money trading one week, only to blow it all the next!

How Does It Compare To The Video Course & Other Guides?

Caan has a number of ebooks and video courses available on his website. Many of them focus on particular sports such as the Tennis Trading Guide.

Besides the obvious difference that this is Caans first physical book whilst the others are digital products, this book acts as a great “all-rounder”. The video course for example, is more suited for traders who want to look over the shoulder of a trader in action, as that’s essentially what you get. Personally, I’d recommend them both but start with this book so you fully understand the basics needed to progress.

Bonus Material

Squeezed in at the end of the book is a little bit of bonus material. One of the more interesting sections being the “My Daily Routine” section, which I know for a fact most traders are dying to understand. People seem to be fascinated with professional traders routines and understandably so. Caan covers everything from his exercise habits to how he manages to fit in recording the hundreds of YouTube videos he has online.

There’s also a handy glossary and recommended reads & resources section.

Should I Get This Book?

If you want to learn all the basics needed to trade on Betfair Exchange AND get to know some real strategies that profitable traders (including Caan) use on a daily basis, this is a no-brainer.

Considering most new traders lose a fair chunk of money into the markets in their first few months (or years!), I’d strongly recommend they put a few quid aside and buy this book. Read it once, implement what you learned and read it again.

Betfair Trading Made Simple is currently just £7.64 on Amazon, which is an absolute steal.

I know for a fact that I burned through a few hundred £ in one week alone when I first started trading. I wish that I’d spent that cash on some helpful information such as this and took the time to understand what I was doing, instead of walking into the ring completely unprepared.
